What do you think about and remember when you’re facing a storm or going through a desert place in your life?
A few days ago I woke up with this scripture in my heart and spirit about David in just such a place.
Psalm 63:2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
Once the powerful and glorious effects and evidences of God’s presence have been imprinted and embedded in your spirit and your soul, it becomes easier to see them in the wilderness. David says “I have seen them in the tabernacle or sanctuary”; in the secret place. He is recollecting and remembering formerly seeing them there.
Although he, as do we all, longs to be brought out of this wilderness, it’s not to see his friends again, or to be restored to the pleasures and gladness of the courts of the Lord. What is it that he longs have access to the sanctuary for; it’s not to see the priests there, or the ceremonies of the tabernacle worship, but to see the power and glory, that is, the glorious power, or powerful glory, of God, which is a display and manifestation of all his attributes and perfections…His nature and character…one of the words for glory in the NT means His reputation!
We have a reputation to uphold here on earth; it’s the reputation of God, and we get it as we behold the glory of the Lord as to be changed into the same image, 2 Corinthians 3:18. It’s not so much power and glory David is talking about, it’s more than that…he says “as I have seen you”. We cannot see the essence of God – He is Spirit, but we can see him, by faith – yes one day we will see Him face to face. As David remembers these sights here he is strengthened: those precious moments spent in communion with God: he loved to recollect and dwell on them.
You may be facing the fury of a storm in your life right now, but may I encourage you to remember your encounters with God in His sanctuary. Our very bodies have become His sanctuary and dwelling place. Remember Him today and rise up out of your despair and into His presence today.
